The %1 of Hip-Hop

A recently released study by MIDiA Consulting has found that the top 1% of artists are earning 77% of total recorded music income. It should come as no surprise that this trend reflects what’s occurring in the larger U.S. economy. The music industry is basically a microcosm of our entire economy; those at the very top have assumed an increasingly greater percentage of total income than the rest. The result is a top-heavy distribution of wealth where 99% aren’t left their fair share.
